Preparing for your birth in your way
What is holistic birth preparation?
Pregnancy is more than a countdown to birth - it’s an invitation to prepare your body, mind, and spirit for birth and the transition into parenthood. Holistic birth preparation supports this process by helping you feel grounded, informed, and connected to yourself and your choices.
This approach weaves together practical and creative exercises that nurture self-trust and confidence. Rather than only thinking or talking about birth, we gently begin to feel into what birth might be like — using movement, breathing, voice, imagination, and embodied rehearsal so the experience feels more familiar and less intimidating.
Alongside this experiential work, the course includes clear, evidence-based information to help you understand how birth works, what supports it physiologically, and how to navigate the maternity system without feeling overwhelmed or rushed.
We’ll explore a range of supportive tools, choosing what feels right for you:
Movement and yoga-inspired practices
Breathing and deep relaxation
Voice and sound for labour
Massage, touch and rebozo techniques
Aromatherapy to support relaxation and focus
Writing to process the journey to parenthood
One of my favourite things as a midwife is individualising care and personalised preparation can make all the difference to your journey. This is not about doing everything — it’s about finding what truly supports you and preparing for your birth in the context of your whole journey from pregnancy to parenting.
Is it right for us?
This course is influenced by yoga and hypnobirthing, but no prior experience is needed. In fact, arriving with a beginner’s mind often brings the openness and flexibility that serve birth and parenthood so well.
Whether you’re feeling curious, anxious, uncertain, or simply wanting a deeper connection to your pregnancy, this work meets you exactly where you are.
What if we're already doing an antenatal course?
Bespoke holistic birth preparation can be a standalone alternative or a powerful complement to standard antenatal classes.
While many antenatal courses focus on information, this work is experiential, personalised, and embodied. Together, we’ll shape the sessions around your specific needs, questions, and hopes for birth and early parenthood — rather than following a one-size-fits-all format.
How is this different to hypnobirthing?
This preparation includes elements of hypnobirthing, such as relaxation, mindset, and understanding birth physiology and the maternity system. However, it offers a broader and more individualised approach.
We draw from a wider range of practices to support pregnancy, birth, and recovery, and we spend more time preparing for the postpartum period and the emotional transition into parenthood — an area often overlooked in traditional birth preparation.
What if I'm planning a caesarean birth?
This preparation includes elements of hypnobirthing, such as relaxation, mindset, and understanding the physiology of birth. However, it offers a broader and more individualised approach.
We draw from a wider range of practices to support pregnancy, birth, and recovery, and we spend more time preparing for the postpartum period and the emotional transition into parenthood — an area often overlooked in traditional birth preparation.
What's the investment?
I offer an 8-hour course, usually held over four evening or weekend sessions.
It’s often said that we spend more time planning holidays than preparing for birth. Taking this time now can have lasting benefits — not just for the birth itself, but for your confidence, recovery, and early parenting experience.

"You are incredibly knowledgeable and really good at finding ways of explaining concepts to people who aren't in the birth world. I liked that you took a holistic approach and included things like scents, rebozo and different resources." Amanda
